Frequently Asked Questions on Direct Mail
Answers to common questions about our direct mail services in Marrickville, Sydney.
Who is Direct Mail Services (DMS) and where are you based?
Direct Mail Services (DMS) is an Australian-owned, family-run mailhouse founded in 1987 by Colin Stoffberg and now managed by the next generation of the family. Our production facility is at 11–15 Victoria Road, Marrickville NSW 2204, in Sydney’s inner west.
What is direct mail fulfilment?
Direct mail fulfilment is the process of preparing and sending physical marketing material to a targeted mailing list. It typically includes printing, personalising content with customer data, envelope inserting or packing, sorting and batching, and lodging with Australia Post for delivery. A fulfilment provider such as DMS manages this whole process.
What services does DMS offer?
DMS manages direct mail from start to finish: mailing list and database preparation, printing, folding, envelope inserting, hand fulfilment, lodgement with Australia Post, and freight or courier distribution. Printing, packing and data processing are carried out in-house at our Marrickville facility.
What printing can DMS do for mail campaigns?
We produce high-volume CMYK and mono printing, using offset or digital methods depending on the job. This includes personalised letters, brochures and postcards, with high-speed inkjet addressing.
What packing and inserting options are available?
Our machine inserting handles up to 6 items per envelope, and we also offer custom folding and automated poly-wrapping for DL to C4 sizes. For premium or non-standard items, our team packs by hand.
How does DMS prepare mail for bulk lodgement with Australia Post?
We prepare your mailing list through sorting, de-duplication and DPID cleansing, then print, fold and insert the mail to meet Australia Post’s requirements. We then lodge it with Australia Post, which helps you access available bulk and promotional postage rates.
What turnaround time can I expect?
Turnaround depends on the size and complexity of the job. Small campaigns typically take a few days, medium campaigns 1 to 2 weeks, and large campaigns 2 weeks or more. We confirm the distribution schedule in your quote.
How much does direct mail cost?
The cost depends on the volume of items, the type of print (letters, postcards or multi-piece packs), the level of personalisation, and postage requirements. Because every campaign is different, we provide tailored quotes based on your requirements.
Does DMS arrange freight and delivery across Australia?
Yes. Alongside Australia Post lodgement, we arrange courier and freight distribution to every state and territory through established domestic transport partners, including local Sydney collections from our Marrickville facility.
Can DMS send mail overseas?
Yes. We coordinate international courier and freight options to suit the budget and urgency of your campaign. Contact us with your destinations and volumes for a tailored quote.
Who does DMS work with?
We work with marketing agencies, corporate brands, not-for-profits and Sydney businesses, as well as national teams running campaigns across Australia.
